Hungry rats costing Brisbane car owners thousands in repairs

 Brisbane's cooler months have prompted warnings that rats may be looking for a cosy place to wine and dine — such as your car engine.

One Holland Park resident, Tanya Wright, was recently hit with a costly bill after her car wouldn't start.

Her mechanic discovered the engine's wiring had been almost entirely stripped by hungry rats.

Brisbane police officer returns to work after blood clot following Pfizer vaccine

 A Brisbane police officer who developed blood clots after receiving his COVID-19 jab has returned to work.

It comes as Queensland Police confirmed the 40-year-old man developed deep-vein thrombosis in 2010, a year after knee surgery.

It was previously reported the officer had recently undergone the surgery.

Thousands of Australian businesses and workers face an uncertain future as JobKeeper comes to an end

 The Australian economy may have picked up faster than expected during the coronavirus pandemic, with 2.7 million people and 680,000 businesses now having “graduated” from JobKeeper.


But with the wage subsidy scheme officially coming to an end on Sunday, many of the 960,000 Australians and 370,000 businesses still relying on the payment face an uncertain future.

More than 5,000 Australian businesses to collapse in next three months, experts say

 At least 5,000 Australian companies will go broke in the next three months due to the jobkeeper wage subsidy ending and other factors including insolvency rules returning to pre-Covid settings, experts say.


Brisbane’s snap lockdown will also put pressure on companies struggling to survive without jobkeeper, which ended on Sunday, the chief executive of commercial credit agency CreditorWatch, Patrick Coghlan, said.

Application to break up Sanjeev Gupta's Australian coal and steel businesses lodged in NSW court

 People of the steel-making town of Whyalla are facing fresh uncertainty amid a push by creditors to break up the Australian empire of British billionaire Sanjeev Gupta.

A claim has been filed to wind up Sanjeev Gupta's Australian operations

It comes after the collapse of major lender Greensill

Last month, Mr Gupta conceded GFG had been too dependent on Greensill

An application was lodged in the NSW Supreme Court on Tuesday to wind up the operations of two companies, including OneSteel Manufacturing which runs the steelworks, which employs more than 1,200 workers.


The application has been made by Citibank.
