Gold Coast Business Week: The 2030 business trends playing out in the 2020s

 The pandemic has brought the future forward by a full decade, and businesses that aren’t ready for it could be left behind, according to futurist Michael McQueen.

From the emergence of artificial intelligence and changes in the way labour markets operate, McQueen believes the 2030s are effectively playing out in the 2020s and this will deliver radical game-changing shifts to the economy over the next few years.

Addressing the opening event at Gold Coast Business Week, a business breakfast hosted by the City of Gold Coast in Surfers Paradise, McQueen said the biggest shift was already upon us with Millennials getting older and Generation Z set to take over as the dominant demographic in the work force. They are also an emerging well-heeled consumer group that can’t be ignored.

Queensland taxpayers foot $2 million bill for inner-west Brisbane school planning

 The Queensland government has spent $2 million planning a new primary school in inner-west Brisbane but after five years and two identified sites, the school’s location is still in doubt.

The Palaszczuk government announced in 2020 that it would build the school for $65 million to open by 2023. It is now budgeted to cost $90 million and open in 2024.

Following strong community opposition to the government's latest preferred location at the former Toowong Bowls Club site, Greens MP Michael Berkman revealed the government was reconsidering the location last week.

Queensland plane crash victims identified as millionaire businessman Tom Strachan, son Noah, and pilot Garry Liehm

 The three people who died in a light plane crash in the Somerset region, west of Brisbane, on Monday have been identified as millionaire businessman Tom Strachan, his son Noah and pilot Garry Liehm.

The successful agri-business mogul, 48, his 20-year-old son and the 63-year-old Gold Coast pilot were all killed when the plane came down in dense bushland near Fernvale.

The alarm was raised after the Cessna aircraft failed to return to Archerfield Airport around 2:40pm.
