BOM weather warning for south-east Queensland, with risk of giant hail, destructive wind gusts and intense rainfall

 Severe storms have dumped torrential rain on southern Queensland, but the worst is yet to come, with the chance supercells will produce giant hail and even tornadoes later today.

A broad cluster of cells brought heavy rainfall to the Darling Downs and the south-east overnight and this morning, with totals closing in on 100 millimetres over the southern Gold Coast hinterland and Brisbane bayside suburbs.

Flying electric taxis could be operating over Brisbane for the 2032 Olympics, says aviation futurist Skyportz

 A plan for flying electric taxis over Brisbane in time for the 2032 Olympics may be more than a flight of fancy, with an Australian company aiming to build an air taxi hub near the city in two years. 

Skyportz chief executive Clem Newton-Brown OAM told ABC Radio Brisbane his company would be part of the planned Australian Advanced Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, to be constructed in the Moreton Bay council area by 2023.

Mr Newtown-Brown said his company wanted to operate electric air taxis in the Brisbane region in time for the Olympics, connecting locations that may not have easy transport links.

Queensland landlords stripped of automatic refusal on pets in rental properties under new housing bill

 Queensland landlords will no longer be allowed to refuse pets in rental properties without a reason deemed valid by the state government.

The Housing Legislation Amendment Bill has passed in Parliament after two days of debate.

The state government said the changes would modernise current laws for the 34 per cent of Queenslanders living in a rental property.
